Child-safe materials

Built for repetition

Aligned with Montessori principles for the home.

Early Numeracy
Introduces basic number concepts such as counting, quantity, and number relationships.
Order & Sequencing
Supports a child’s ability to recognise patterns, arrange elements logically, and understand progression from first to last. This skill underpins early mathematics, language structure, and the development of organised thinking.
Focus & Concentration
Supports sustained attention and helps children stay engaged with an activity from beginning to end.

The Hundred Board is a traditional Montessori Mathematics material that strengthens the child’s understanding of number sequence from 1 to 100.

The wooden board contains one hundred squares arranged in ten rows of ten. Individual number tiles are placed in sequence, allowing the child to physically construct the number pattern rather than simply recite it.

This work reinforces linear counting beyond ten and deepens the child’s familiarity with number order. As the board fills, visual patterns begin to emerge — rows of ten, repeating unit placement, and the consistent structure of the decimal system.

Unlike rote memorisation, the Hundred Board allows the child to build the sequence deliberately. Errors become visible immediately when a tile disrupts the pattern, supporting independent correction.

This material consolidates early counting knowledge and prepares the child for skip counting, multiplication patterns, and broader work within the decimal system.

Materials & Safety

Our products are designed to support learning and development and should always be used with appropriate adult supervision.

Many Montessori materials are teaching aids, not toys, and are intended to be introduced and guided by a trained or knowledgeable adult. Children should never be left unattended while using these materials.

Our educational materials are made for play and exploration, but still require care and supervision appropriate to a child’s age and stage.

Preparing Your Order

Mindful Montessori is a family-run business, and every order is packed with care and intention — never rushed.

Orders are typically prepared and dispatched within 3–5 business days.

All orders ship via Australia Post. Once dispatched, delivery times vary by location and may take up to two weeks, particularly during busy periods.

Tracking is provided as soon as your order is on its way.

Why this material matters

Revealing numerical pattern

Rows of ten and vertical alignment make structure visible, supporting understanding of numerical order.

Extending number sequence

The board allows the child to build the counting sequence beyond ten in a structured, visual format.

Independent correction through structure

Misplaced tiles disrupt the visual pattern, allowing the child to adjust without adult intervention.

A simple 3-step introduction

Prepare a floor mat or table

Place the empty board in front of the child. Keep number tiles mixed in the box.

Demonstrate sequential placement

Find the number one and place it in the top left square. Continue placing tiles in order across each row.

Observe steady sequencing

Watch for one-to-one placement and careful scanning for the next number. Step back once the pattern is understood.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my child is ready for this material?

Your child is usually ready when they can count confidently to ten and show familiarity with numbers up to twenty. Comfort with the Spindle Box or other quantity–symbol association work is a strong indicator.

When do I know if my child is ready to move on from this material?

When your child can complete the board independently and begins noticing patterns — such as rows of ten or consistent unit placement — without prompting.

What material comes after my child has exceeded the skill?

The Teen & Ten Boards extend place value understanding by isolating tens and units. Skip counting work may also be introduced to highlight multiplication patterns.

How long should my child work with this material?

The Hundred Board is often revisited repeatedly. Children benefit from completing it multiple times before exploring variations such as partial sequencing or timed challenges.

What if my child isn’t interested in this material yet?

Return to earlier counting materials and ensure strong understanding of numbers 1–10 and 1–20. Interest in larger sequences often emerges once earlier quantities feel secure.
