The Rings on a Peg is a classic Montessori Infant Toddler material designed to refine vertical alignment and controlled release.
The child removes coloured wooden rings from the central peg and replaces them one by one. Unlike early dropping or pushing activities, this material requires deliberate positioning. The ring must be aligned with the peg before release.
The vertical orientation introduces gravity as a factor. The child must lift, centre, and lower the ring with intention rather than drop it randomly.
At 18–24 months, this work strengthens bilateral coordination. One hand often stabilises the base while the other guides the ring. The movement becomes increasingly smooth with repetition.
Although the rings are coloured, colour is not the focus. The purpose is controlled movement, spatial awareness, and refining the mechanics of placement.
Prepare a complete 18–24 months environment.
